This should be a fun exercise in which you will explore the financial tables in the Wall Street Journal. There are some major differences between the print and electronic versions of the Wall Street Journal. The app doesn’t really show data at all, and even the web version doesn’t display the tables in the same format. The objective is to introduce you to the array of commonly available financial information and to help you learn more about areas that you are not familiar with or would like to learn more about.
⦁ Examine one week’s worth (Monday through Saturday) of the Wall Street Journal’s print edition.
⦁ Examine the financial tables. These are typically located in the B section of the print edition. Although the stock tables are in each edition, the other data tables often change from day to day.
⦁ For each day, list ONE table that was not in the prior day’s edition of the Journal. You will thus come up with a list of six tables. All that is needed here is a list.
⦁ Find ONE table that you are not familiar with or would like to learn more about. Using Google or other search tools, find out about the table. Be prepared to present this table and what you learned about it to the class. You will be cold-called. Note that you only have to do this for one table and not six.
You don’t have to buy the dead-tree edition. You can see a digital version of the print edition at wsj.com. The link for the print edition is located right under the large Wall Street Journal near the top.
Since it may take a few days to locate a week’s worth of print editions, this exercise will actually be due and discussed in Week 2.
