The purpose of the blogpost should be to 1) raise awareness about a specific disease/health condition for a target demographic group, and 2) provide at least 1 – 3 health behavior/policy recommendations in order to address the health concern.  Students should concentrate their efforts on health concerns that “worse” in the Southeast region of the United States of America.  Messages are expected to employ positive framing and encourage readers to perform 1 – 3 behaviors to change a adverse health condition.  Students should use “statistics and facts” from valid sources including their state departments of health (i.e. https://www.alabamapublichealth.gov/index.html (Links to an external site.)), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC @ www.cdc.gov (Links to an external site.)), the National Institutes of Health (www.nih.gov (Links to an external site.)), health organizations (i.e. www.heart.org (Links to an external site.) ; www.cancer.org (Links to an external site.) ; www.diabetes.org (Links to an external site.) ), and/or the published scientific literature (i.e. www.pubmed.gov). (Links to an external site.) You can also find many types of diseases and conditions here: https://www.cdc.gov/DiseasesConditions/ (Links to an external site.).Students are encouraged to revise previous works in class for this effort.  The parameters for the blog post should be 350 – 750 words.  Students should understand that several iterations of refinement may be necessary, thus requiring multiple uploads, in order to create the blog post.  A full 15 points will be awarded to submissions approved & posted on the WWL by Dr. Wilkinson.  Students should communicate regularly with Dr. Wilkinson during the blog post creation process.  Students will need to cite their source(s) using APA format within the post and ensure correct spelling/grammar unless part of the messaging.
