Group Project Deliverable No 1 Guidelines (Created: – 09-17-2022 at 5:00 pm)
Please refer to the Sample Subject Area Document.xls spreadsheet in the Group Project General Documents Module in Canvas. This document refers to the above spreadsheet.
Please note that every group will be analyzing and designing an information system for the subject area of their choice and working with two other groups in this project: – the group which has chosen to be your user group called the partner user group and the project group for which your group is the user group called the partner designer group.
For example, from the Sample Subject Area Document.xls it is clear that Group No 3 is the partner user group for group no 1 and Group No 2 is the partner designer group for group no 1.
The entire group project deliverable no 1 is worth 6 overall semester percentage points
The points for the group project deliverable no 1 are made up of two components.
Designer Role Document Points – 4
User Role Document Points – 2
Designer Role Document
Please include the following sections in your Group Project Deliverable No 1 – Designer Role document.
Section A: – Introduction (100 points)
Section B: – System Request (400 points)
Section C: – Technical Feasibility (100 points)
Section D: – Economic Feasibility (300 points)
Section E: – Organizational Feasibility (100 points)
Section F: – Functional Requirements (300 points)
Section G: – Non-Functional Requirements (200 points)
Total: – 1500 points.
User Role Document
The user role document is worth 1000 points and should have the following section.
Section A: – Functional Requirements of the project of your partner designer group. For example, as per the Sample Subject Area Document, group no 1 will prepare the functional requirements of the subject area of group no 2. Group No 2 should share the system request of their project subject area with group no 1 as soon as possible. The group numbers mentioned in this paragraph is just an illustration. Please look at the proper subject area spread sheet in the Group Project Deliverable No 1 module in Canvas to identify your partner user and partner designer group for this project.
System Request
The system request is the key document to start your project. As a designer group, please prepare the system request document working together with group that has chosen to be your user group.
Please refer to pages 43- 45 to determine the five elements of the system request. The project sponsor is a key management role in the organization. The business need is some aspect that is of crucial importance to the organization. Information systems cause changes to many aspects of an organization. Identifying a business need helps answer the question why an important change is necessary in the organization.
You could identify the business need by looking at the following: –
Business goals and objectives: – Identifying the ends that the organization has in sight
Solving a problem or exploiting an opportunity
Desired outcome
Once you have identified the business need, please document the business requirements of the system, which are the capabilities of the system that helps satisfy the identified business needs.
You should identify at least three different business requirements for your project.
Business value is the benefit provided by system which has the capabilities mentioned in the business requirements which in turn satisfy a business need.
Please identify any special issues that could substantially impact the project.
Economic Feasibility
Please search the internet for projects in the industry to which your subject area belongs and try to get an idea about the costs and benefits involved. Arrive at reasonable figures about the tangible costs and benefits. Please look at pages 46 to 51 for a detailed note on economic feasibility. Please submit two EXCEL spreadsheets, one for the Cost Benefit Analysis (Similar to the one on page 50 of the course textbook, Figure 2 – 6) and one for the Break-Even graph (Similar to the one on page 51 of the course textbook, Figure 2 – 8 ). When you create the Cost Benefit Analysis spreadsheet, please remember to forecast the financial values for at least 5 years. With respect to the breakeven point, I want to see the calculation of the Break Even point and the graph.
You may use the template given in the spreadsheet given on page 50. Please do not copy the quantitative amounts for the costs and benefits given in that example. The quantities for the costs and benefits should be for your own group project. Please use the appropriate formulas for calculating the Net Present Value and Break Even Point in your spreadsheet. I will be evaluating you also on the proper application of the correct formulae.
Technical and Organizational Feasibility
Please remember to mention the risks for each factor of technical feasibility and the how you will reduce the risk in the technical feasibility.
Similarly in the organizational feasibility please remember to mention the risks with respect to each stakeholder and how you will reduce the risk in the organizational feasibility.
Functional Requirements
Please look at the corresponding system request when you write the functional requirements. When you are writing the functional requirements for your own project’s subject area as part of the designer role documents, please look at the business requirements mentioned in the system request of your project and drive them into finer details. You should have at least 6 different functional requirements at the lowest level of detail. Please follow the outline given on page 90 in Chapter 3 when you write the functional requirements.
When you are writing the functional requirements as part of the user role document, please look at the system request of your partner designer group and drive down the business requirements mentioned in that system request to lower-level details. Once again you should have at least 6 lowest level requirements in the functional requirements document.
Submission Guidelines
Please make sure that only one member of each group submits the group deliverables using the links on Canvas. Each group member will submit their peer evaluation forms using the peer evaluation form submission link.
Please contact me if you have any questions.
