select a special crime population (sex crimes, capital murder, terrorism, hate crime). For the selected population, review recent (within the last 5 years) scholarly articles on the population and develop a post that contains the following components:

1) Describe and cite at least one recent scholarly article on the overall recidivism risk rate for the crime you selected, as well as any information on higher risk special populations within it (e.g., do people with mental health problems have a higher recidivism risk?)

2) Identify a non-institutional option for rehabilitative programming for the population. Non-institutional options are those that do not occur in a prison, detention center, or forensic hospital. Common examples include:

  • Community-based treatment programs for capital offenders who are NGRI or for sexual crime offenders
  • Community-based de-radicalization programming for people convicted of aiding or joining terrorist groups
  • Community-based rehabilitation programming for people who have been members of hate groups

3) Briefly introduce your peers to the program, by outlining key information on

(a) how the program works,

(b) who is eligible to participate, and

(c) what evidence exists for its’ effectiveness.
