Respond To Jacob Post

Hello class,

My name is Jake, and I am a Corrections Officer pursuing my bachelor’s degree in criminology, I earned my associate degree in criminal justice through Allegany College in 2022. As a researcher in the field if I witness and or observe the act of a child being treated in an inappropriate manner or being physically hit, I would definitely get involved. Regardless of the severity of the research the welfare of a child comes first before the research at hand.

Not only would I be ethically obligated to get involved in the situation but, I would also be legally obligated as a social worker to step in. The Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act actually mandates a number of those who hold certain employment positions to report child neglect or abuse (Children’s Bureau, 2020).

In your responses to your peers, indicate why you agree or disagree with their responses. What else might your peer want to consider as they decide whether or not to intervene?

  • Note: Keep in mind that responses are given from the perspective of a researcher, not the individual’s personal response.
