Explain in 2–3 sentences the extent to which you were surprised or not surprised by the TEST results and explain the reasons why you were surprised or not surprised.

I scored the highest on the cognitive section, which does not surprise me. I am in full support of trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy. This is the structure that was used at my field study location, and something I feel can be integrated into every session. Individuals will experience multiple traumatic events over their lifetime, some worse than others. Understanding trauma and the impact it has on each person is relevant to their care and has an impact on how they heal and their ability to move forward (Kawam, Ph.D. & Martinez, Ph.D., n.d.).

After looking back at the array of theories and models that were covered in this course, identify the top three theories or models that most appealed to you

The top three theories I would pick are cognitive behavioral theory, empowerment theory, and resilience theory. When someone feels empowered, they have the strength and ability to make changes and move forward. Mindset has a strong impact on one’s life and how they perceive the outside world as well as internally.  Being empowered and having the strength and ability to make changes can impact resiliency. Resilience theory is another theory that I believe is important. Without the drive and resilience, a person may never move to a better place (Turner, 2011).

In this course, you were asked to select one case study to use throughout the entire course. Describe this experience—for example, the degree to which it was helpful to focus on one case, what you learned, what could perhaps be done differently.

I chose the case study of Ella. I chose her because I have a strong desire to work with children. Not that other age groups are not important but, I feel children and adolescents need some of the most support. They are not mature enough or experienced enough to fend for themselves yet. If I had to do things differently, I would have picked the same case study. I may have thought more deeply when applying certain theories to her case, however.  Over the course of the quarter, I did learn quite a bit about Ella, how to effectively apply different theories to her case, and find some that may work better than others.

Explain in 2 to 3 sentence the extent to which you were surprised or not surprised by the TEST results and explain the reasons why you were surprised or not surprised.

I’m not surprised of my results. However, I am surprised on the comparison from the Sample of 130. I do believe that human behavior is caused by early childhood experiences that effect adulthood. I also do believe intervention strategies can help change behavior. I also believe our mind has a lot of power over us. I believe those who choose and see through the positive lens and have a positive attitude there will be those who will be able to have more of a positive outcome that they want.

After looking back at the array of theories and models that were covered in this course, identify the top three theories or models that most appealed to you.

The top three models that most appealed me are Crisis Theory, Empowerment Theory, and Cognitive Behavior Therapy.

Explain in 3 to 4 sentences how your personal values, worldviews, life experiences, and/or your personality influenced your selection of the top three theories or models.

My personal values views of the world, experiences, and personality have influenced my selection of the top three theories. When it comes to my personal experiences, I have been part of relationships with spouses, friends, and family which have gone through crisis situations, and I have gone through personal crisis experiences. I experienced family and individual therapy with my mother in high school due to an intimate relationship I was in, and my mother could not help me change my behavior. Therefore, we both sought out professional help and I was able to change my thoughts and behaviors about this individual. I have been able to help my friends within their crisis by educating them on the negative and unhealthy relationships in their lives. My personality influences my top three selections because, I have always been the one to empower those who feel as if they did not have a voice or felt alone in this world. I make a lot of positive social connections wherever I go.

In this course, you were asked to select one case study to use throughout the entire course. Describe this experience—for example, the degree to which it was helpful to focus on one case, what you learned, what could perhaps be done differently.

The case study that I chose throughout this course was the case of Ella Schutz. My experience with this case was challenging because my father suffered from addiction all my childhood. I chose this case because this is the population, I want to focus on was addiction. I thought it was great to utilize different theoretical approaches. In my opinion, this allowed me to see multiple challenges Ella had and was able to utilize a guide to help me and the client figure out how to work through these challenges. As I worked collectively with this case, I pictured as if it were reality because there are individuals who go through what Ella has gone through. I’m sure during my practicing I will encounter clients who have the same circumstances and will resort to this course and recall these theories. I’m glad I was able to choose a case study of my interest and work on different theoretic outcomes on how to help the client.
