References Request
Following the advice found in the Career Services GuideActions, identify 3 professional references to contact this week via email. Professional references should be people who have served in the capacity of your professor/ instructor, advisor, or work supervisor. Friends, pastors, neighbors, fiances and CERTAINLY family members are NOT appropriate references, though I see them all the time!
For this assignment, select the 3 people you will contact via email to serve as your reference. Write your email in accordance with the guidelines in Ch. 10 and the online article provided in the module this week, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Emailers. Be sure you include a resume that is referenced in your email and some context for who you are. Remember that instructors teach hundreds of students each semester. Help them remember you! Tell them what class you had them for and when….or when and where you worked for them….all depending on the person you are approaching to serve as a reference. Give them the information needed to write you a letter. Tell them what job or graduate program and, should they agree to do so on your behalf, to whom the letter should be sent.
