Purpose

The purpose of the activity is to identify the characteristics of your neighborhood. You will use this information as part of your Community Analysis Project.  These demographic characteristics will also help you as part of the discussions and reflections on your neighborhood by considering your community from an intersectional lens.

Tasks

  1. Look up your neighborhood by zip code  (My zip code is 90022)
    • You can use the LA Mapping project https://maps.latimes.com/neighborhoods/
    • You can search through Census data https://www.census.gov/en.html
    • You can also search here: https://datacommons.org/place which uses census data.
  2. Name the neighborhood and zip code.  (MY neighborhood and zip code are East Los Angele, 90022)
  3. Identify information on 5 demographic characteristics of your neighborhood from the following list
    • Race/ethnicity
    • Income
    • Education level
    • Ancestry/Country of origin
    • Sex
    • Age
    • Crime
    • School scores
    • Household size
    • Family Structure
