Unit VII Discussion Board

  1. Attitudes toward obesity have varied widely both across and within cultures at various historical times. There is evidence that this cultural variation is giving way to an increasing weight stigma, even in cultures around the globe that have previously had very positive values attached to larger body size. Yet at the same time, demographics and health research indicate more and more people across most cultures are becoming obese at an alarming rate.

Do you think the spread of negative views of people who are overweight or obese is a good thing or a bad thing for these cultures? Explain your answer from both a physical health and also a psychological health perspective.

  1. Unit VI Discussion Board

In this unit, we discussed the creation of body paragraphs for your research paper. You should have a good idea of what your revised thesis statement will look like, the points that you want to include, and the evidence you will use to support those points.Let’s take just a moment and think about the process so far. Feel free to use this writing as a reflection upon what you have experienced so far in the course. You might want to consider some of the questions below, but you are not required to answer them. Remember, as always, that this discussion should be a positive and constructive experience for everyone. The idea is that you reflect upon the process so that you understand it, understand yourself as a new student writer, and understand the challenges and successes you experience. What do you think is your strongest point? What do you think is your weakest? Do you think the scope of your project is narrowed down efficiently? How are you feeling about the process? What do you think about the structure of the body paragraphs? Does the structure seem too restrictive or helpful and guiding? Looking back on some of the materials that you have read, can you see the structures that we have discussed in the course so far? Do you see differences between academic and public sources in terms of how the paragraphs are constructed.

Unit VII Discussion Board

  1. As described in Unit VI and reinforced in Unit VII, the expository essay is instructional and educational in that the purpose of this essay is to confer information from the author to the reader. There are many different kinds of expository writing that surround us each day. In fact, you have more than likely written in an expository manner before. Any time you have written to a friend and described the process for cooking a favorite dish, explained the process for enrolling in a fantasy football league, or explained how to plan and then execute a quilt, you were writing in an expository manner. For this reflection, briefly introduce the topic of your expository essay to your course mates. This is not a formal disclosure. Instead, describe what you intend to write about in your Unit VII expository essay. Use the following questions as a guide:
  • What is your topic?
  • How are you approaching it?
  • What do you already know about the topic?
  • What do you want others to know about the topic?
  • What attracted you to this topic?
  • Do you have a personal interest in the topic?
  • What was the inspiration for writing about this topic?
  • What do you want to know about the topic?
  • What kinds of research are you doing already?
  • How do you feel about the drafting process so far?

You certainly should not feel as though you need to answer all of the questions above. Instead, in your description, picture your course mates as your audience. Imagine that we are all sitting in a classroom together, and the instructor has the class to go around the room and describe their projects.

Unit VI Discussion Board Question

  1. For our discussion in Unit VI, you are the quality improvement (QI) coordinator assigned to either the operations, clinical care or documentation domains that we have learned about in this unit. First, identify the domain for which you are performing the QI process. Next, imagine that you discovered a repetitive error that multiple employees have made over the last 60 days. Briefly explain what the problem is and how you would recommend the organization address it.

In your response to a classmate, you should respond as if you are one of the employees who has committed this error. How do you feel about the approach? Do you consider it a positive interaction?

Unit VII Discussion Question

  1. Imagine that you have been tasked by your chief or board of directors to create a risk reduction program for your community. First, identify in your community your targeted group for the risk reduction program. Second, identify the key components (the how and why of the program) of how you would engage this targeted group. Would you need to provide specialized training to members of your agency?

In response to a classmate, identify at least one other way the agency can target the population in need of the community risk reduction program.

HTH 2309 Reimbursement MethodogiesBottom of Form

Unit VI Discussion Board Thread

  1. Submitting clean claims is an integral part of the medical practice. Falsifying claims can lead to penalties, delayed reimbursement, and, in some cases, legal consequences. Submitting erroneous or fraudulent claims is one of the more prevalent issues in the medical field. Read the scenario below and respond with how you would handle the situation. You have been assigned to work with a physician who you do not normally work with while a medical assistant is away on vacation. During your daily chart review of the patients, you notice that many of the patients have been charged for procedures that were not performed and/or were unnecessary. You also notice that the medical assistant, who is also a close acquaintance of yours, who is working with this physician was the staff member who completed the charge ticket for the physician. (Please note: The physician has to sign every charge ticket as acknowledgment of services provided.) How would you approach this scenario? Would you confront the physician, your friend/coworker, your manager, or not reveal your findings? Explain your answer. Please keep in mind that there is no right or wrong answer, but please think critically about how you would handle this situation.

Unit VII Discussion Board Thread

  1. In today’s health care climate, it is imperative that patients be aware of the particulars of their insurance coverage. With the price of health care services rising, ensuring effective reimbursement procedures has never been more important. The explanation of benefits (EOB) focuses on providing patients with a breakdown of their medical bill and shows which entity is responsible for what charge. In your opinion, how effective can an EOB be in helping resolve discrepancies in medical billing? If you have any personal experiences where you were inappropriately charged for a medical service, share your story, and explain how the issue was resolved.

Please include the name of the person or question to which you are replying in the subject line. For example, “Tom’s response to Susan’s comment.”
