Picot Final

Prepare this assignment as a 1,500-1,750-word paper using the instructor feedback from the previous course assignments and the guidelines below.

PICOT Question

Revise the PICOT question you wrote in the Topic 1 assignment using the feedback you received from your instructor.

The final PICOT question will provide a framework for your capstone project (the project students must complete during their final course in the RN-BSN program of study).

Research Critiques

In the Topic 2 and Topic 3 assignments, you completed qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods research critiques on two articles for each type of study (four articles total). Use the feedback you received from your instructor on these assignments to finalize the critical analysis of each study by making appropriate revisions.

The completed analysis should connect to your identified practice problem of interest that is the basis for your PICOT question.

Use the “Research Critiques and PICOT Question Guidelines – Final Draft” document to organize your essay. Questions under each heading should be addressed as a narrative in the structure of a formal paper. Please note that there are two new additional sections: Outcomes Comparison and Proposed Evidence-Based Practice Change.

Evidence-Based Practice and use of PICOT

Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) is the application of research that is most current in the process of improvement of health and safety across the healthcare system. EBP is about the combination of the best practice based on the most recent medical literature to enhance patient care practice and decision-making (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2022). The practice is predicated on bettering care delivery and outcomes. It is also meant to reduce healthcare costs and minimize any existing variation in health outcomes. It helps improve the healthcare of individuals and of populations. It also improves the patient experience and clinical experience of nurses while reducing burnout (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2022). For nurses, EBP means having tools that act as change agents in the process of improving healthcare outcomes.

Nursing and medical practice problems are related, but they feature distinct differences. Nursing practice problems refer to aspects directly associated with patient care, their perceptions, and attitudes as concerns health disorders. They are issues that may arise in the course of nursing practice and encompass the promotion of recovery, health education, and care coordination (Curtis et al., 2017). An example is the prevention of catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI). Medical practice problems are associated with diseases. It is based on the identification and diagnosis of medical conditions, provision of prognosis, and prescriptions. An example may be the treatment and prescription of pain medications for a fractured arm (Curtis et al., 2017). PICOT questions should be based on nursing practice problems as this provides the basis for improving care. It helps nurses ascertain that the care they provide is safe and of high quality. Ensuring that PICOT is based on nursing problem factors in solving problems associated with patient care and improving outcomes.
