ECON 335 International Economy

Writing Assignment

Late submission through email will result in 20% deduction in the writing assignment grade

ECON 335 fulfills the general education requirement in Explorations in Social Sciences. The writing
assignment is designed to give you practice in applying economic concepts to real world issues as well as
to hone your argumentative and writing skills.
Grading
It accounts for 15% of the course grade. Your assignment will be graded according to the following
criteria (see detailed rubrics on page 3):
• Content: demonstrate clear understanding of the material and correctly apply relevant
economic concepts and theories to the issue(s) in question.
• Analysis: present an in-depth economic analysis; thoughts and arguments are developed
precisely and logically.
• Writing: clear and concise meaning, good transitions, free of spelling and grammatical
errors, and correct formatting and citations.
Requirement
Read the briefing articles, “Slowbalisation”, The Economist, January 26, 2019, pg. 23-26, “Goodbye
Globalisation” and “Torn Apart”, The Economist, May 16, 2020, pg.7, and pg. 59-61. The articles are
available on Canvas AssignmentsWriting Assignment.
Write a report to answer the assignment questions on page 2 in your own words.
Do not merely copy the words or directly quote the sentences in the articles or line up unrelated
answers to the assignment questions. You may use as references the articles above, the textbook, and
your lecture notes. No other print or online sources are allowed. Please include your citations and
references using APA format if you cite the articles above and/or the textbook. For guidance of APA
format, see https://libraryguides.fullerton.edu/citations/APA.
This is an individual assignment. Do not discuss with any other students/tutors about the writing
assignment. If you have questions regarding the writing assignment, please ask the instructor.

Format
The report should be two to three pages, 1.5 line-spaced, 11-point font. The report needs to be
typewritten using Microsoft Word. No handwritten papers will be accepted.

Please refer to the assigned articles and apply what you have learned in Econ 335 to answer the
following questions.

include your full name, CWID, and your class section# on the top right of the first page in your report.
Please submit your draft on Canvas at least one day early in case any technology problem occurs on
the due date. You may submit your draft as many times as you want before the deadline. The system
will overwrite the previous version.
1. According to the briefing article “Slobalisation”, what is slowbalisation? Please refer to the eight
measures in the first two rows of Chart 1 in the article for details. What are the underlying causes of
