During this week, we are examining why most people tend to conform in most of their social interactions, while others deviate from the existing social norms. After you have read the textbook and lectures assigned for this week, please respond to the following question:

  • In your everyday life, you conform to hundreds of norms, rules, and laws, often without your conscious awareness that you are doing so. Identify some norms, rules, and laws that you believe impact your life. What are some of the biological, social, and environmental factors that reinforce these norms, rules, and laws?
  • What are some behaviors that were previously considered deviant that may have been normalized through social change?

This week, you will submit the final version of the essay draft you submitted in week 4. This is your opportunity to take your instructor’s feedback and make that draft even better.

Here are the guidelines for your final essay:

  • Begin by reviewing your instructor’s comments and suggestions on your draft. If you submitted the essay to our LIVE Tutoring services, review that feedback, too.
  • Next, try and choose some ideas and analysis from a scholarly article (the one you chose in week 4, or one that was suggested by your instructor) that support your thesis, i.e. the main claim of your paper.
  • Remember to cite anything you quote or paraphrase from the article, textbook, and online lectures in correct APA citation.
  • If you have not already done so, add the scholarly article to your list of references.

Submission Details

  • Submit your document to the Submissions Area by the due date assigned.
