Leadership Case Study Analysis Instructions
The purpose of the leadership case study is to analyze an individual situation (case) using relevant
theoretical concepts from your discipline. The case study might then be used to help make a decision
about how to do things in another case that has similar features. Learners are expected to use
theories, vocabulary, and models to describe their analysis of the case study. The case study analysis
should be written in clear concise language.
Read the following case study entitled, “History of the NCO 1700: Valley Forge”. Pick two
issues to discuss in the case study analysis. Write a 500 – 700 word analysis using the case study
format outline.
a) The lack of standardized drills and maneuvers.
b) The poor supply acquisition process.
c) The lack of policies/procedures that were in place.
d) The poor camp layout and sanitation plan.
e) Sickness and disease.
f) Low morale and desertion.
Case Study Format Outline
Paragraph 1: Introduction, Key Problems, Thesis Statement
Paragraph 2: Background, (Set the scene/facts/main actors)
Paragraph 3: Alternatives (Outline some alternatives, why you rejected them, constraints/reasons,
why alternatives are not possible at this time)
Paragraph 4: Proposed Solutions (Proposed Course of Action (Solution) (one or two, may have sub
components)
Paragraph 5: Recommendations (Determine and discuss specific strategies for accomplishing the
proposed solution. If applicable, recommend further action to resolve some of the issues. What
should be done and who should do it?)
You have 100 minutes (2 hours) to produce your leadership case study analysis. You will have 10
minutes to brief your case study analysis to the class.
