The theme of invisibility is found in many writings by African Americans and refers to the experience of being overlooked completely or to not being seen as an individual, but rather as a stereotype or a representative for an entire group of people. Is this kind of invisibility evident in the text you chose? Does stereotyping have a role in the essay, article or story? Are there ways we can move past stereotype in viewing those who are physically, socially or culturally different than ourselves?
