Purpose:

While librarians can assist teachers in locating materials to support their teaching, teachers should know how to access resources that tell us about books.  In this assignment, we will locate and explore different book award and reading lists, how these books are critiqued, and present these books.

Requirements:

For the assignment, please locate and read your selected books. Your books will come from two different  reading lists/awards. Select one from a Texas Library Association reading list and one from an American Library Association Award. After you read your two books, you will create a poster or slides presenting the required material, then post to this discussion thread. Posters can be in any format-Powerpoint, Publisher, Canva, etc. Review sources can be found in the TWU Library – Children’s Collection.

Presentation requirements for each book:

  • Name of book, including author and illustrator (if different from author)
  • Book cover
  • Summary of the book, including recommended ages
  • Title of award/reading list, including information about the award
  • 2 reviews (if available) from professional review sources
  • Colorful presentation targeted to your intended audience
  • Original response post include:
    • Poster presentation
    • Citation for book and 2 reviews
    • Brief discussion on if the reviews matched your opinion? Why or why not? Is there anything missing from the review that would have been helpful in selecting this book?

Please select a book from the last 5 years:
