For this assignment you are presented with the following scenario, seemingly mundane:

You are a new police officer, assistant district attorney, probation or parole officer, corrections officer, or other public servant in the criminal justice system. During your field training/probationary period of employment you are teamed with a senior partner/mentor/field training officer. While out to lunch at a local establishment it is time to pay the bill and get back to work. As the server brings over the check, your partner waves to the manager/owner. The manager tells the waitress it is ok, nothing is owed because “…they’re out protecting us every day.” Your assignment is to thoroughly develop an answer to this question: What do you do next? Here are the parameters for this final project, due by the deadline:

Submit a 1,000 – 2,000 word paper, in Microsoft Word, answering the question (approximately 4-8 content pages). Word count begins with the introduction and ends with the last word in the conclusion (see samples in our online classroom).

Submit a corresponding Microsoft Power Point presentation eliminating key points of your paper; you will be presenting the same to a group of your colleagues/peers in VoiceThread (see samples of PowerPoint presentations in our online classroom).

Your paper/presentation should include, but not be limited to:

addressing what ethics means to you, and others;

what is corruption, as defined by you, and others.

what is integrity, as defined by you, and others.

what is professionalism, as defined by you, and others.

What do you do next? (answer the question)

Your paper and presentation must be consistent with the standards set forth in the APA 7th; see the samples in our Engage online classroom, and in the APA itself. You must use the APA template provided in our online classroom and discussed in class. There is an automatic five (5) point deduction for not using the proper template provided by the professor.

You should have a well-developed introduction, main body with key points, and strong conclusion, using a minimum of six (6) credible sources.

You should seek out support materials well beyond our class and the internet; look to journals, case studies, commissions brought together to look into ethical violations, corruption, and the like. With the exception of Black’s Law Dictionary, dictionaries and sources such as Wikipedia are not credible sources and may not be used in your writing.

Utilize a second reader before submission of your draft(s) and final paper/presentation; either a colleague and/or the Writing Center (if you are in the area during the normal school year) and/or ThinkingStorm and/or the University’s Tutoring Services.

You will prepare a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation discussing the key points of your paper, and deliver the same to your colleagues in VoiceThread. Business/professional attire and appearance are required for this, and any oral presentation in this class.

You will receive three individual grades (paper, PowerPoint deck, oral presentation)
