Concept Redesign

Last week you had your first taste of portfolio critique. This week you further explored online portfolios designed by other members of the industry, and your competition. We will now marry these two concepts together as one creative, design-based project.

Look through the portfolios you examined this week as well as your notes and narrow in on one particular portfolio that simply missed the mark in its overall design and layout. Do now worry about the quality or quantity of its portfolio pieces for now. Simply analyze the construction and layout of the portfolio itself.

After noting what causes the portfolio to be less than successful or aesthetically pleasing, turn to your design program of choice (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, or any combination therein) and create a revamped version of the portfolio’s main content page. Be sure that the major elements of the page (text, images, logo, etc) are still present, as you are simply redesigning the layout and framework of the portfolio itself, not its inner contents.

Think of it this way: someone tried to make their own portfolio and failed miserably, and has now hired you to redevelop their main page since you are so talented and experienced!

Since you will be reworking someone else’s digital content, your final layout will need to be in web resolution, RGB mode.

Once you have finished your redesign, save the project in its native file format and then save/export as a JPG, PNG, or PDF file. Upload this file, along with a screenshot of the original site design, to the drop box below in one zipped file.

Submit your completed assignment by following the directions linked below. Please check the Course Calendar for specific due dates.

Save your assignment and the screenshot into one zipped file. (Mac users, please remember to append the “.zip” extension to the filename.) The name of the file should be your first initial and last name, followed by an underscore and the name of the assignment, and an underscore and the date. An example is shown below:
