Pick an existing singular public/community structure in your neighborhood to research. This can be a church, park, art installation, school, shopping center, theater, etc. You are going to analyze the development of this structure over time: why was it made, who used it, and what was its evolution?

In 1,500-1,750 words, write a short history of the area/subject you chose. In your short history, consider:

  1. What primary resources are available for conducting research of this structure? Where would you find those resources?
  2. How would you respectfully engage with community members while conducting this type of research?
  3. Looking at the historical past of the subject you chose and its surrounding neighborhood, has there been significant change? How do you know? What was the catalyst for the change? If there has been no change, why do you think it has stayed the same?
  4. What challenges did you face in collecting the area/subject’s history? How did you overcome those challenges?

Include a minimum of five sources specific to your structure; these sources can include blogs, websites, newspaper articles, local radio or TV interviews, etc.
