Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence in 1776. It has two parts. The first part describes the right of a people to rebel against a tyrant and describes the new American republic that was to be established. The second part is a long list of grievances against George III.

This is a two week discussion board. You must participate in the first week in order to post to two students in the second week. For your initial post, choose two of the grievances that Jefferson discusses in the Declaration of Independence.  Discuss the context of each grievance. Be specific. How did that grievance come about? What were the effects of that grievance on the people of the colonies, and how did it help to bring on the American Revolution? The initial post should be at least 200 to 250 words long. How did John Locke influence Jefferson’s thinking, or did he? Be sure to cite the pages from the textbook that you are using. No Wikipedia.  All US History textbooks have a copy of the constitution and the Declaration of Independence. In addition to your book, you may use a maximum of two other sources that end in org or edu. Do not use an encylopaedia.  Possibilities include: https://www.ushistory.org/gov/2.asp (Links to an external site.); https://www.crf-usa.org/foundations-of-our-constitution/natural-rights.html (Links to an external site.); https://plato.stanford.edu/entries/locke-political/;   (Links to an external site.)https://www.monticello.org/thomas-jefferson/jefferson-s-three-greatest-achievements/the-declaration/jefferson-and-the-declaration/ (Links to an external site.) (Links to an external site.). There are others. Please put things in your own words. There’s no need to quote in something this short. However, use either in text citations or footnotes in your initial post, and then list your works cited at the end. This is not part of the word count. Do not just list sources at the end. How was Locke’s social contract related to the Declaration?

All posts due by April 18 If you do not post in the first week, you may not post to others. Do the initial post first. Use citations – Chicago Manual of Style, no APA. You must footnote or use in text citations, too and include a bibliography.  Late initial posts will not be graded. Don’t forget to do this, and don’t procrastinate. It is often a good practice to do all posts in one day so that you don’t forget to do them. That is up to you.

During the second week, you need to post to two students. Make the posts substantive. Each post to another student should be a minimum of 150 words. Do not upload files. Please write  your posts in the rich text editor box. I would personally write it in Word, and save it. Then copy and paste it into the box.
