Intellectual Identity

The Bachelor of Business Administration in Human Resources has provided an extensive understanding on crucial elements needed in effective human resource management. The course exposed students and learners to crucial procedures involved in human resource development, maintenance and development. Among the most useful concepts learnt throughout the classes attended include recruitment and selection, labor laws and regulations, employee relations and compensation as well as employee performance. These elements provide an entire framework followed in effective human resource management. Also, they exposed learners to management skills such as problem-solving skills as each of the outlined HR processes has distinct challenges that have to be solved. I had to analyze each of the elements and how it contributes to organizational success in determining the unique challenges faced by the organization and most appropriate alternatives to solving such challenges. From this experience, I am certain that I will have a high level of experience and responsibility needed in becoming a competent HR professional at the CHRE level.

Professional Identity

As a person whose working style is characterized by collaboration, diversity and teamwork, I believe my professional identity is ultimately participative leadership. I appreciate the brilliance of others in contributing towards providing a solution to a prevailing problem or task. Also, I have developed an attribute of appreciating the impact of cultural differences and embracing diversity in backgrounds existent among students and teammates. This helps in pooling views and perspectives from a wide cultural pool thus increasing positive outcomes from decisions made in such teams. As much as I commit myself to devising ways to completing tasks successfully and as per the standards, I always make sure those around me in teams also feel appreciated. Working with others has also helped in building my empathetic skills, a crucial attribute in becoming a competent HR professional at CHRE level. Although there are some areas such as getting distracted and not being very productive in working alone, I believe I will continue making improvements in learning how to balance between working in teams and working alone. This will be crucial in becoming a HR professional who can fit in any environment regardless of presence or absence of workmates. However, I am certain that I will make an exceptional HR professional or candidate with my proficient teamwork skills. Also, with the development of global community and global workforce, there is a growing need for HR professionals who can work in a diverse working environment in terms of multiple cultures represented. The experience gained in the undergraduate years have definitely equipped me with strong interpersonal skills necessary in accommodating a diverse workforce thus increasing my chances of becoming a more competent CHRE level HR professional.

Undergraduate Competency

My undergraduate experience has provided with the most crucial skills that I need in my professional journey of becoming a competent HR professional. My undergraduate experience equipped with both goal-setting skills and time management skills. As learners were required to complete lengthy projects within specified time, time management became a necessity in successful completion of tasks. This was attained through organizing tasks based on expected outcomes. This is the point at which SMART goal-setting developed. With effective goal-setting, I understood when to outsource skills and expertise and when to use personal skills in ensuring the desired goals are attained and within the specified time. In addition, the undergraduate experience enhanced my innovation and creativity skills particularly in problem-solving and which I believe has a significant positive impact in my future career as a HR professional. Being innovative in the working environment assists representatives with feeling blissful and supports their certainty. When innovative ideas result in measurable outcomes, it also boosts employee morale. By taking part in imaginative exercises at work, representatives can encounter decreased work environment stress and partake in their work. Employees may become disengaged from their day-to-day work and lack a clear career path if innovation is not encouraged. As a result, employees may look elsewhere for better growth opportunities, resulting in staff turnover.With this experience, I will be a better HR professional who leads others in goal-setting and in ensuring resources are appropriated within the specified time as well as innovative enough to yield organizational success.

Leadership

My leadership style is participative leadership. This involves allowing the subordinates or others to make contributions on prevailing issues after which the leader assesses the opinions before making a decision. By encouraging individual accountability and working together to find solutions rather than pointing fingers when issues arise, participatory leadership fosters collaboration. Participative leadership is a style of leadership in which employees are heard and involved in decision-making. It necessitates having an inclusive mindset, being able to communicate effectively, and being able to share power. This leadership style is contributed heavily by my long experience of teamwork and working with others. However, I still have some weaknesses in personal leadership such as low productivity when working alone compared to when working with others. I am working on identifying time at which I am most resourceful while working alone in order to determine the most appropriate way. This way, I will enhance personal leadership in using available time and resources to maximize on output and productivity.
