Assessment Issues and Procedures

1.  Many conceptual developments have been important in the field of assessment during the past years.  Among them have been the notions of formative and summative evaluation and the distinctions between norm and criterion-referenced assessment. 

            (a)  How do these concepts fit into the evaluation picture?

            (b)  Why are they important?

2.  (a) LIST and DEFINE the seven steps for retooling the classroom in consideration of the IEP, lesson planning, and alternate assessment.

     (b)  What are the implications of following these steps in the educational decision-making for a student with ID?

3.  Early identification of any student suspected of having a disability is vital to the future success and achievement of a child, powered by the provision of early intervention services.  Review the text section on early life beginning on pg 80. 

            (a)  What are the two related purposes of evaluating a child between 0-2 who demonstrates a suspected disability?

            (b)  What are two difficulties encountered in predicting later functioning from infant assessment procedures?

4.  Many assessment tools are available to properly assess functioning of infants/toddlers and pre-school children, in general.  Some of the tools include:  Denver, DIAL 3, Bailey,  WPSSI, Stanford-Binet, and the Early Language Accomplishment Profile (E-LAP).

            (a)  Locate the E-LAP at http://chtop.org/Products/LAP-System/The-Early-Lap.htm .  Define the E-LAP.

            (b)  List the six categories that the assessment tool measures.
