Discussion Post – Speech

Go to the Week 9 forum on the Discussion Board, create a new thread for your post, and post 100-150 words responding to question #1. Then post 100-150 words responding to EITHER question #2 OR question #3 below – choose ONE of these questions to answer. Make your initial post by 11:59 PM, CT Friday. At least two meaningful responses to other students are due by 11:59 PM, CT Sunday (10 points).

Before beginning, you will want to review the discussion board policies in the course syllabus before beginning your assignments.

Prepare your initial discussion post for the week. Everyone must answer Question #1 and everyone must also choose to respond to EITHER question #2 OR question #3 below – choose ONE of these questions to answer. For questions #2 and #3, you will need to cite our textbook in your discussion post; do not use any other source. Be sure to cite the textbook in APA citation style. Include an APA-formatted Reference Page, listing our textbook, at the end of the post.

Your Discussion Board submissions must always begin with the Discussion Board question number you chose to answer, i.e. “Question #3.”

  1. QUESTION #1 MUST BE ANSWERED BY EVERYONE.You must also respond to Question #2 or #3.
  • What did I learn by self-evaluating my TED Talk Speech?
  • What did I learn by completing reviews on my peers’ TED Talk Speeches?

  1. Question 2 (Chapter 18)
Write a Commemorative Speech one page in length. In this Commemorative Speech, you will pay tribute to one person. This speech will be in MS Word, double-spaced, Ariel font, font size 11.

The person to whom you pay tribute is a person you currently know personally or knew personally. This person will not be a famous, historical, or contemporary figure. Because this is a Commemorative Speech, this assignment calls for a less didactic speech than the informative and persuasive speeches. Commemorative Speeches focus particularly on the use of language, so you must use language imaginatively and experiment with the devices for enhancing clarity and vividness discussed in Chapter 12.

This one-page Commemorative Speech must exemplify the principles of commemorative speaking discussed in Chapter 18.

  2. Question 3 (Chapter 20)
Think about a group you were part of in this last year. Identify a relatively important decision you made as a member of that group that affected you negatively. This means you will think of a decision youmade that did not have a successful ending for you.

Choose a decision for which you did not use the reflective-thinking method.

  • Reconstruct how you reached that decision.
  • Explain how you would re-make the decision following the reflective-thinking method.
